In June, 2024, my son Reese and I went to the eastern side of the Organ Mountains to take a few photos. We stopped near the entrance to the Aguirre Springs recreation area and walked around in the open space with a view of the mountains. I had been here before, but this time I walked far enough to notice a narrow wash/ditch I had not seen before. Standing in the wash seemed like an interesting way to capture a ground level panorama. I ended up finding other locations and also noticed a few large cows grazing in the area who seemed to take an interest in my presence there. They gradually got closer to me , so I decided it was time to leave and planned to return another day for the panorama from the wash.
We went back the next day and as we got closer to the entrance gate, we noticed a group of cows grazing. After we parked our car, got out and started walking toward the wash, the group of cows came trotting over, then slowed down. A couple of them continued to move slowly towards me as I stood in the wash. The sand at the bottom of the wash was very soft, so given my limited mobility, I became concerned about getting away from the cows if I needed to. I walked towards the road and saw that the cows were still following me. They only stopped when I was standing in the road.
